Why Blogging and SEO Work Well Together

Blogging is becoming one of the most popular ways to market a company, brand, personality or product on the Web. Why? Because search engines love content, and there is no better way to create and manage content on the Web than a blog. According to Technorati, there are over 60 million blogs on the Web, with over 100,000 being created every day. A lot of people have caught on to blogging, and there is plenty of room for more.
What is a Blog?
The word ‘blog’ is a slang compilation of two words; ‘web’ and ‘log’, or ‘weblog’. Initially established as a way to publish computer log files, the original pioneers of blogging began publishing more and more interesting content. Today, bloggers post news, commentary, and even real time descriptions of events using blog software.
Think of a blog as an ‘online journal’. ‘Posts’, as they are called, are short articles that are listed on your blog site in chronological order. Visiting a blog, you will notice that the most recent article is presented at the top, and earlier stories are listed below, or in an archive.
Blog software is available all over the Internet. Some of the more popular sources are Wordpress and Blogger. Our favorite is Wordpress because it is an ‘open source’ application that can be installed on your own server and customized.
A custom blog allows you to have more control over the look of the interface, and event to incorporate the blog into your existing site. This is of particular interest to companies who want to use blogging as a way to communicate with customers and keep fresh content at the forefront of their site; a great search engine strategy.
Blogging and SEO: Why is it such a Good Idea?
Search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, scour the Web looking for new content to index. In particular, they are looking for content that is ‘keyword rich’; content that is full of relevant keywords. When content is keyword rich, it provides relevance for the site and allows a search engine to properly categorize your blog site into a particular market.
Keywords can be anything from the name of your product, to the name of your company, or the type of services you offer. Refining keywords with geographic specificity is a popular way to climb to the top of a search page in your particular region, even though you may be competing with a lot of sites on a national level. (For instance; ‘lawn care’ gets over 5.5 million hits, while ‘utah lawn care’ gets a more reasonable 1.2 million. The more times you can use a keyword in each post, the better.)
Websites that regularly update keyword rich content are considered ‘alive and active’ by the leading search engines, and are given priority over sites that are considered ‘dormant’ or ’stagnant’. If your site has not changed in over 60 days, you are in danger of being considered ’stagnant’, and falling out of favor with the search engines.
Search engines gain popularity with users based on their ability to direct people to relevant sites that are alive and active with current content. How often do you want to visit a site that hasn’t changed in over a year? The search engines feel the same way, and are reluctant to refer a site that hasn’t been updated for a while.
Again; a blog is a great way to add content management to your existing site, and is a terrific way to get started on the Web with a basic web presence that can become a very effective marketing tool.
What Else Can a Blog Do?
Aside from writing content, you can do a lot of creative, and even productive things with a blog.
Blog systems provide the ability to upload files and attach them to your posts (articles). Having this ability means you can add your own graphics to each article, dressing them up with photos of people, places and products. You can also add full motion video, slide shows, and even link to You Tube or other streaming video hosting services.
Podcasting has become popular, and is a fun way to add audio to your articles. You can include music, sounds or interviews; virtually anything you can record can be added to your blog as an audio file.
One of the most common things to add to an article is a file such as a PDF or even a Word document. Linking files to your articles allows your readers to download those files, which can be anything from a photo, instructions, or a form to slides, video and audio.
There are also advanced marketing functions you can perform with a blog. By incorporating a subscription function, you can collect leads from your blog, and communicate with your audience via an automated email system. Each time you post a new article, your subscribers will automatically receive an email notification. Instant newsletter.
Getting Started
Blogging can be done in a number of ways; there are free options out there that allow you plenty of space to write all you can at no cost. If you are interested in creating a custom site, with your own graphics, extensions, and management options, you will want to establish a custom blog on your own domain.
If you already have a domain (such as www. yourname. com), it is best to establish your blog on a ’sub-domain’. Your Web guy will know how to do this. Name your sub-domain with a keyword for the best search engine optimization (such as widget. yourname. com).
If you are the technical type, or you have someone who takes care of your Web systems; take a look at wordpress. org and download a copy of their latest open source blog software. Once installed you are ready to go.

Blogging to the Bank 2.0. Reviewed

Rob Benwell begins Blogging to the Bank 2.0. by looking back at the 16 months since the release of the original Blogging to the Bank. Rob discusses the impact this release had on blogs (particularly Blogger blogs) and how this led to the creation of his five blogging commandments. The five blogging commandments are what Rob believes are essential for your blogs success and provide an overview of the whole ebook. Obviously, I cannot spoil Rob’s ebook by revealing them here but they do contain some good information to keep your visitors coming back and reading your blog. After this introduction Rob gets into the main body of his ebook.

Rob begins by discussing Market Research & Keyphrase Lists. This is a very important stage as it ultimately determines what you will be blogging about. Rob emphasises the importance of taking your time and discusses how you can find affiliate products using ClickBank. He also describes how to to do some basic keyword research using a couple of free tools. Overall, I found this chapter to be a great introduction to affiliate marketing and in particular keyword research. Before reading the chapter I knew almost nothing about keyword research and whilst I’m still no expert I now know the basics of optimising my blog and its pages.

Rob then moves on to discuss creating your blog. First, he outlines how to actually install your blog. Then he moves on to discuss the four options available to you when getting content for your blog. After this he outlines how to optimise, monetise and ping your blog. Overall, this section of Blogging to the Bank 2.0 contains a lot of good information. I was particularly impressed by Rob’s use of screenshots and instructions to explain his ideas. I’m a big fan of screenshots and feel they really help beginners. The section on monetisation was also a real help for me too. My main criticism of this section was that Rob does not explain how to automate the pinging of your blog. This is a relatively simple process but for some reason Rob ignores it.

If you have followed Rob’s instructions up to this point you should have your blog ready to go. Logically, Rob goes on to outline how you can promote your blog and get some traffic. The topics he covers in this section include basic promotion techniques (including article syndication, forum marketing and link exchanges) and Web 2.0. techniques. Web 2.0. is a phrase that describes the trend in web development towards creativity, collaboration and sharing between users (good examples of successful Web 2.0. websites are Facebook and YouTube). Whilst the basic promotion techniques are good, I was very impressed with the Web 2.0. section. Before reading this chapter I had stuck primarily to article marketing but now I have my first Squidoo lens out there and I am getting a lot of extra traffic from social bookmarking sites. My main criticism about this chapter is the section on DIGG (a social bookmarking site). Whilst Rob did open my eyes to a very good resource he did not make it clear that DIGG will ban you if you just submit your own blog posts, which is what happened to me.

Rob finishes his ebook by discussing some advanced techniques including outsourcing the creation of your blogs, creating your own product in the market you are blogging for and even selling your blog. I have not tried any of the techniques in this section yet but I am planning on creating some of my own products to sell to my blog readers.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend Blogging to the Bank 2.0. if you are looking to start your first blog, or even get more serious with your current blogging. After reading Rob’s ebook I decided to make my first serious blog (i.e. a blog in a niche topic that I would be updating regularly) and whilst I am not making nearly enough to retire on, I am generating an increased amount of traffic and revenue each month as a direct result of Rob’s techniques. My main criticisms of Blogging to the Bank 2.0. are that Rob seems to miss certain things out. A section on how to ping your blog automatically would have been really useful to some readers and there are a number of helpful WordPress plugins I have come across that Rob does not feature in his ebook. However, these are only small criticisms. By following the instructions inside Blogging to the Bank 2.0. I believe a relative beginner could quite easily get a monetised blog online in a short period of time.

5 Reasons Why Blogging is the New Internet Marketing Tool

Blogging is a concept that started in late 90s. It used to be a way to comment an existing webpage, an opportunity for visitors and readers to react or voice out one’s opinion on the said page. What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun. As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog’s potential. Here are 5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

1.Blogging is simple. The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging. No skills are necessary… an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse. It’s like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product. If you have a PC and an Internet connection (who doesn’t?) then you can blog and advertise.

2. Blogging is authentic. In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the credibility of promoters’ claims. However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unscathed by paid advertising. Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience. You definitely want to buy a tried and tested product.

3. Blogging is free. Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to augment current marketing tools and thus offer it for free. Any opportunity for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up. Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

4. Blogging builds credibility. As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs. As such, you become an expert on it; as a consequence, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs. As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

5. Blogging builds your market. Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your Mom reads your posts. Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is. But you need not depend on Mom to increase your readership base. Look into the following ways to build your market through blogging:

-By using your e-mail. Today, blogging is overcoming the e-mail’s popularity in quickly and effectively reaching and expanding a market. In this age of speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail is simply taking longer than clicking into a blog site. Let them explore your site by using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

-By using subscription. An easy way to get your readers e-mail is to give them an opportunity to subscribe to your blogsite. Keep some exclusive information for your subscribers to entice readers to subscribe and give their e-mail address. Just be responsible in using their e-mail address, as the last thing you want is a comment on your blog that you are a spammer.

-By understanding your readers. Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

-By joining a blog network –A network of blogs maybe a collection of blog sites that share the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to several real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are better than one.

-By using RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Give your business a boost by effectively using blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

Blog Marketing

What is blog marketing? It is essentially building up a blog for the purpose of marketing a product or service. What is essential for knowledge and understanding of how you can go about marketing the blog boils down to the fundamentals of online marketing. They will guide you to achieve the best results in blog marketing.

What then are these fundamentals that are building blocks to the marketing of your blog? Much serious thought and consideration have to be given to them. They are the pillars in blog marketing.

(1) Check out and confirm who will be your audience that you are targeting

Needless to say, this is the very first prerogative any marketer has to fulfill before embarking on the process of blog marketing. The product or service must be able to meet the need of the customer. This implies that the audience must be correctly targeted. In marketing terms, there must be correct customer segmentation.

(2) Search out the possible sources of online audience presence

After having segmented the target market, ascertain where and how can the targeted audience be found and reached on the web. A good suggestion would be putting up a survey on the web. Ask questions pertinent only to your product or service.

(3) Read the minds of the targeted audience

Delve into the minds of the audience target. Know what the targeted audience read. This will provide great support when it comes to studying their interests and understanding the different reasons for their reading blogs. This will be of great help when you want to find out in what ways blogs read by them have been useful to them. Plans can then be drawn up to revamp your blog for blog marketing success.

(4) Check out and confirm audience communication channel

Find out how to contact the targeted audience who is usually geographically dispersed. The norm will be via search engines. These will assist searches for your blog by the targeted audience. It is also possible to consider other communication methods such as the posting of interesting messages and the exchange of links amongst blogs. These alternatives will help in traffic growth for your blog.

(5) Determine ways to collect email addresses of targeted audience

The opt-in box will be needed to collect the email addresses of the targeted audience. This will help to grow the subscription list which can be the potential goldmine. Hang carrots to lure potential customers by giving freebies for instance free ebooks. The choice of opting in essentially means that the customers have the right to choose if they really want to release their email addresses and to receive future email marketing messages from you. To ensure privacy, insert a privacy policy which should categorically state that you as the marketer will protect all contact details and information given. The psychological fear of not knowing who they are talking to at the other end is overcome by the use of such a privacy policy. The building of your contact database will thus be made much easier.

(6) Know and understand the competition

Be armed with good knowledge and understanding about your competition. It is paramount to know the minutest details of the competitors in terms of who are they and what are they currently doing in their business. With the data collected, you will be able to write out a strategy to fine-tune your blog and blow your competition away.

In blog marketing, you can achieve the best results with the following steps:

(1) Careful selection of keywords

Your blog must be search-engine-ready. This means that even the brief description of your website must show up relevant keywords that are related to your niche business. This process of carefully selecting the best keywords may be tedious but it can extremely rewarding. Search engine optimization necessitates this action to be taken. Even the meta tag should preferably use description similar to that of the title. Search engine rankings can be affected by the title tag as well as the name of your blog. When selecting keywords, it is best to include the name of your blog into the title tag, not forgetting certain relevant keywords for the purpose of search engine optimization.

(2) Listings in search engines

To spread word about the birth of new blogs, it is usually done by listing with search engines. In submitting your blog to search engines, it is always useful to provide them with the brief description and keywords that you have specially selected. Of course, the operations of search engines do differ in their requirements for submission. Examples of search engines and directories that you can choose from include Google.com, Yahoo.com, Blogcatalog.com, Bloggernity.com, just to name a few.

(3) Get more links

The concept of links and reciprocal links plays an important role in blog marketing. Links must be relevant to your site; they must be speaking in same terms. The more links the merrier. Visitors will love to return as they realize your blog has become a valuable content resource to them. Undoubtedly, blogs are actually great link baits. There are several free tools designed specially to help out in the area of linking to other blogs. Examples include Blogroll.com and Del.icio.us.

(4) Use Feeds

When new updates are posted in the blog, it is strongly recommended to use blog feeds that will help to automate the important process of syndication of blog content by other bloggers. The concept of subscription to content from blog feeds enables members to monitor updates of blogs that they like. FeedBurner for instance helps to set up feeds.

(5) Use Pinging

Your blog must “ping” each time there is a new post written. The blog is being updated and notification must be sent out to your audience. This can be easily done with the help of blog search engines such as Blo.gs and Weblogs.com. for Typepad users. Ping-o-matic is another good choice.

(6) Place relevant comments on other blogs

Make many visits to related websites and place pertinent comments on those blogs. With rich and valuable content on your own blog, these bloggers would come to your site. This will imply more traffic from your targeted audience, especially if you have placed your URL in your post for the sole purpose of leading them back to your blog. In trackbacking and especially for blog marketing, the trackback feature will increase the awareness of your blog and blog content. This is simply done by putting a link to the page from where the post that you are referring to is taken from.

(7) Monitor and Identify shifting trends

It is imperative for the survival of any business to monitor what is happening with its competitors. What are the current changes taking place? What are the new trends that are appearing gradually? What will be your next course of action? It is no easy task but it must be done for the survival of your blog. The reason is that the blogosphere is always growing and getting filled with new blogs with new trends. Blogdex , Technorati and even BlogPulse will provide the much needed information on shifting trends and popularity.

Blog marketing is the new marketing era on the web. It provides a real hot source of revenue if given the strong setup and right impetus. It is a lucrative source of money. It can certainly be explosive.

Strategies for an Effective Business Blog

For a business blog to be effective, it is strongly recommended to use all available tools and strategies that you can find. It is vital to helping you create value to the blogging experience for your visitors.Certain strategies come to mind. You can use them to make your business blog more effective.(1)Permit visitors to search your blogAs your blog develops and grows with more posts, visitors must be permitted to search your blog for relevant information. There are no doubt many blog software that will support this function through the archival feature for your content. Still it would be good for you to add a search box to your homepage. Your visitors will easily reach for a specific subject through this search box. One such strategy to achieve this goal and to make your business blog effective is adding a Google search box to your blog. You can find this at www.google.com/searchcode.html.(2) Monitoring of traffic to your blogIt is important to do this. There are many reasons why must. When you track statistics on who are your readers, what posts they usually read on your blog, and where do they come from, you will be able to analyze them much better. You will have gained valuable insight into your visitors. Once again, you can find effective support for this function from Google. They have the Google Analytics Program that will provide the best site statistics and visitor information. You can also try the free and paid versions of visitor tracking software from MyBlogLog.(3) Management of blog commentsYou will undoubtedly receive comments from visitors. Therefore, you will have to manage these blog comments effectively. Of course, there will be comments that appear to be spam. For this, you do not need to worry as there are blog software that will screen comments before releasing them. For effectiveness, try using the free service from HaloScan. Another alternative requires you to enable the ‘word verification’ option in your blogging software. This will prevent automated comment spam.(4) Permit visitors to make purchases through your blogBy means of a blog, you are able to sell your products online. All that is required of you is to configure the blog to accept different modes of online payment. If you have a standalone blog and to support your direct sales through it, you can best do this through PayPal. It is extremely cost-effective, easily set up , and of great use with your blog.(5)Use good design for your blogVisitors coming to your blog for information must have that enjoyable experience. It is good to ensure that your blog design is tailored to delight visitors besides giving support to your content. What is a good blog design then? I would recommend one that uses legible type, appealing colors and provides a clear and easy-to-read format. Importantly, it should be easy to navigate. There are sources for blog design resources on the web. You can find them at BlogSkins, Flickr, Blogger Templates, just to name a few. You should customize your blog for better results. In conclusion, strategies for an effective business blog are always there for you to apply. The outcome will depend on how badly you want the good results. By doing things the right way on your business blog, you will certainly be rewarded ultimately.

Too Many Blog Traffic Strategies, Which One To Use?

I believe that you have read lots of different blog traffic strategies if you have been blogging for some time. So, which one is the best method? Is it search engine optimization or pay-per-click? Is it the free ones or the paying ones?
The answer is…
It depends on your blog topic. As a blogger, you should choose which traffic strategies fit your blog instead of trying to figure out which one is the best. The magic question you should ask yourself to get the answer is “What visitors I want and where they usually go?”
After testing more than 10 different traffic strategies for my blogs, my results shows me the there are 3 sources of traffic every blogger should get is:
1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
You might already heard SEO. And would probably love to get traffic from Google. However, you are also convinced that it is hard and complicated. Well, blogs have lots of advantages in SEO. Google love blogs because blogs always provide fresh and lots of content. I rank high for many keywords with blogs easily. All you need to do is learn and apply the SEO basics. The first step is to optimize my blog for SEO. Next, I’ll start writing original and valuable blog post consistently. Finally, I’ll build backlinks by submitting articles and web directories. This is not hard but it takes time to reach. Probably 2-3 months.
2. Blog Commenting
Give valuable comments to other blogs which are related to your blog. The purpose of this is not to get readers to click on your link to your blog. Of course, it will be some bonus traffic. However, the main objective is to make new friends who share the same passion- blogging and talking about the same topic. When you have more blogging friends, all of you could help each other. They could recommend your blog to their readers if you write something good. You can do the same to provide more value to your readers too.
3. Word Of Mouth
Believe it or not, blogs are very powerful at word of mouth. Since the day I’ve learn about blog, I shared many blogs to all of my friends. I didn’t share that for some ‘Good Blogger’s Practice’. I shared them because I love those blogs. Their content helps me and I think it will help my friends. My friends thank me for sharing with them and I bring traffic to those blogs. If you are interested in people spreading the word for you, always remember this: ‘Provide Valuable Content’. Write contents or put up your own video that provide values to others.
4. Article Marketing
This is my favorite. This traffic strategy doesn’t takes months. You could start getting traffic from Article Marketing within days. All you need to do is write articles your targeted visitors want to read. Submit those articles you wrote to 5 popular article directories. You could start getting some traffic within a week and automated traffic over years. However, it is important to write a lot and not just few. Another benefit from using article marketing is that you can simply rewrite them in an informal style and post it on your blog. Both articles have similar contents but looks different. With this method, you are able to get traffic and update fresh content for your blog as well.
5. Forum Marketing
Forum marketing is fun and easy to many blogging beginners because all you need to do is chat in an online forum. Register an account and include a link to your blog in your signature. You might get some traffic if you reply often to the members’ post. But if you are interested in more traffic, learn to start a new topic. Start an interesting topic with an attractive title. If your topic draws people’s attention and replies, people would like to check out your blog to see anything more from you.
These are the 5 traffic strategies I recommend all beginners should start with. Although all of them take time to grow, it will grow into huge traffic streams and it is effortless to maintain.

Alex Liu is a full-time blogger who used and tested more than 10 different traffic strategies for all his 5 blogs. To grab your list of 103 Blog Traffic Strategies and to receive more tips about <a href="http://blogtrafficgeek.com” rel=”nofollow”>free blog traffic, visit http://blogtrafficgeek.com

Before You Learn How to Blog, You Better Learn What a Blog is (and Isn’t)

Thinking about starting a blog, are you? Before you learn how to create a blog, you had better get an idea of what a blog actually is and how it is fundamentally different from other online presences. That’s exactly what I’ll be reviewing in this article.A blog, short for weblog (web-log, not we-blog), is an online journal. Blogs are specialized forms of web sites, so they typically contain text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, or other media related to their topics. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning “to maintain or add content to a blog.”Blog entries, or “posts,” are usually displayed in reverse chronological order, and posts are assigned to categories to assist with organization. Posts refer to individual articles, or writings, in a blog.Blogs differ from traditional web sites in several crucial ways:

RSS feeds?RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of feed formats used to publish blog content. Feeds make it easy for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that’s easier than checking them manually.Feeds can be aggregated in a feed reader, a web page or portal page, or a web browser. The feed reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds. In essence, it’s a way for your favorite content to be “pushed” to you, or in this case, a way for your subscribers to get your content pushed to them as it’s updated. In a nutshell, feeds make sure that your readers receive your content as it’s published.Blogs range from personal journals intended for close friends and family, to influential and significant media journals, to informal communication channels for companies. Blogs exist in about every shape, size, and topic imaginable. The power of blogs is that they allow millions of people to have a voice. What Do You Mean by Blog and What is Weblogs?
